The B-29 Superfortress was a four-engine, propeller-driven heavy bomber, and one of the largest aircraft used in World War II. An advanced bomber for its time, its features included remote controlled machine gun turrets and a pressurized cabin which allowed for high-altitude flight.
This Daron Postage Stamp replica is of B-29 “Jack's Hack” which was named for one of her pilots Jack Volkert. The plane entered service in July 1945 and was mostly used for training since it entered service too late for WWII. In the 1950’s it was to be used as target at Aberdeen, but was instead disassembled and stored. The plane was acquired by the New England Air Museum in 1973 from the Aberdeen proving grounds. Full restoration began in 1998 in cooperation with the 58th Bomb Wing Association and is meticulously maintained by volunteers. The plane is on display at the New England Air Museum, Windsor Locks, Connecticut.
