The Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II is a family of single-seat, single-engine, all-weather stealth multirole fighters. The fifth-generation combat aircraft is designed to perform ground-attack and air-superiority missions. It has three main models: the F-35A conventional takeoff and landing (CTOL) variant, the F-35B short take-off and vertical-landing (STOVL) variant, and the F-35C carrier-based catapult-assisted take-off but arrested recovery (CATOBAR) variant
Compared to the F-35A, the F-35C carrier variant features larger wings with foldable wingtip sections, larger wing and tail control surfaces for improved low-speed control, stronger landing gear for the stresses of carrier arrested landings, a twin-wheel nose gear, and a stronger tailhook for use with carrier arrestor cables. The larger wing area allows for decreased landing speed while increasing both range and payload.
This Hobby Master model represents aircraft CF-01 the first US Navy F-35C test aircraft. The aircraft took it’s first flight on June 6th 2010. CF-01 is flown by VX-23 “Salty Dogs” the US Navy test and evaluation squadron based at Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Maryland.
As with most Hobby Master models, this F-35C features engraved panel lines, antennas, surface details and pad printed authentic squadron markings. The canopy can be displayed open or closed and reveals a well-appointed cockpit (with instrumentation details). The model also comes with a weapons complement, optional-position landing gear and a display stand.
Great care should be taken when handling this model. This is a great addition to your diecast aircraft collection.
