The M60 “Patton” is a second generation main battle tank (MBT) introduced in December 1960. With the United States Army's deactivation of their last (M103) heavy tank battalion in 1963, the M60 became the Army's primary tank during the Cold War
The program to develop the M60A1 was approved in early 1960. The M60A1 is the first variant to feature the distinctive "needle-nose" long nosed turret, along with better armor protection, improved hydraulics and AVDS-1790-2A TLAC engine
The M60A1 was in production from 1962 until 1980 and was extensively used by the US Army and Marines Corps. A total of 7,948 M60A1s (all variants) were built. Many of them were later converted to the A3 standard.
Used during the 1970s, '80s, and '90s, the M60A1 (MBT) was kept in operation by the U.S. Marines despite the Army's new re-equipped M1 Abrams. The U.S. Marines explained to the U.S. Congress House Committee on Appropriations that the M60A1 wasn't near the end of its life expectancy and they didn't want to keep acquiring updated versions of the Abrams.
This Hobby Master die cast replica is of a US Marine Corps M60A1 Patton Tank with Explosive Reactive Armor (ERA). The model features authentic markings, rotating turret, elevating main gun, realistic non-moving tracks, and an acrylic display case.
This M60A1 is a great addition to your armor collection.
