The Vallejo Company was established in 1965, in New Jersey, U.S.A. In the first years the company specialized in the manufacture of Film Color, waterbased acrylic colors for animated films (cartoons). In 1969 the company moved to Spain; in those years many important cartoon studios were based in Europe.
In the year 1981, following suggestions by professors of the Fine Arts University of Barcelona, Vallejo presented Acrylic Studio- a range of high quality acrylic colors for fine artsThe growing popularity of waterbased acrylic colors became of interest to airbrush artists, until then working with solvent based products. With the help of these artists during the periods of trial and testing, Vallejo formulated the first acrylic colors for airbrushing in 1986. In the following years, the company began developing a range of colors-Model Color- for hobby and model painters, as well as complete lines of colors and auxiliary products for decorative arts.
At present Acrylicos Vallejo exports to more than 55 countries, and the AV colors comply with all the security and environment regulations in force in the European Common Market and the United States.
