During World War II Douglas SBD-3 Dauntless served as the US Navy's principal carrier based scout bomber aircraft from 1940 until 1944 as it offered impressive flying and range attributes among with exceptional weaponry. Powered by Wright R-1820-52, 1000 horsepower engine giving the top speed 250 mph. Range: 1345 miles with bombs, 1580 miles scouting. The Dauntless proved to be the US Navy's most potent offensive weapon of World War II accounting for the destruction of more Japanese naval tonnage than all other US Navy assets combined.
This Daron Postage Stamp 1/87 scale model replicates SBD-3 41-S-13 (Bureau Number: 06624 ) on display at the Air Zoo museum in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
