The Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II is a family of single-seat, single-engine, all-weather stealth multirole fighters. The fifth-generation combat aircraft is designed to perform ground-attack and air-superiority missions. It has three main models: the F-35A conventional takeoff and landing (CTOL) variant, the F-35B short take-off and vertical-landing (STOVL) variant, and the F-35C carrier-based catapult-assisted take-off but arrested recovery (CATOBAR) variant
Compared to the F-35A, the F-35C carrier variant features larger wings with foldable wingtip sections, larger wing and tail control surfaces for improved low-speed control, stronger landing gear for the stresses of carrier arrested landings, a twin-wheel nose gear, and a stronger tailhook for use with carrier arrestor cables. The larger wing area allows for decreased landing speed while increasing both range and payload.
The United States Navy intends to buy 260 F-35Cs to replace the F/A-18A, B, C, and D Hornets and complement the Super Hornet fleet
This F-35C model by Air Force 1 is a replica of test aircraft CF-03 from U.S. Navy Air Test and Evaluation Squadron 23 (VX-23). VX-23 is based at Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Maryland, United States. The squadron was established on 22 July 1995. Using the tail code SD, the squadron operates multiple aircraft types of the United States Navy for test and evaluation purposes.
The model is highly detailed with squadron markings, panel lines, detailed cockpit with pilot figure. The model can be displayed with multiple optional configurations, In flight, open or closed weapons bays and extended landing gear and wing tips folded. The model also comes with internal and external payloads which include fuel tanks, 2 medium bombs and two air to air missiles. Metal display stand included.
