The Pacific War, which lasted from 1937 to 1945, saw the Empire of Japan engaged in a fierce struggle against the United States, the British Empire, and their allies. Unlike the Western European Theater, most battles in the Pacific were fought on small, remote islands, where combat was marked by extreme brutality, widespread illness, and harsh conditions. The Imperial Japanese Army (IJA), often fighting with minimal naval or aerial support, quickly earned a reputation for its tenacity and unyielding spirit.
The most common machine guns used by the IJA were the Type 96 and Type 99 light machine guns, firing the 6.5mm and 7.7mm round, respectively. They fired from 30-round magazines, loaded from the top, and though these weapons externally resemble the British Bren gun, and are sometimes believed to be copies, they are functionally and internally separate. These machine guns have a much higher rate of fire than the Bren, resulting in stoppages. To prevent this, the ammunition had to be oiled before use, and special reduced-charge rounds were issued to machine gun crews. Unusually for a machine gun, these weapons could be fitted with a bayonet.
Please note that the models of this set are similar to that of PWJ 02 except that two machine teams are included, in place of a similar number of riflemen. This is to provide choice for the customers who prefer to have more machine gun teams.
Note: The models are made from non-phthalate plastics and tested for compliance with toy safety regulations. Please note the actual content of the boxset may contain minor variations from the photographs.
