The Jagdpanther (German: "hunting panther"), Sonderkraftfahrzeug (abbreviated Sd.Kfz.,German for "special purpose vehicle" or "special ordnance vehicle") 173, was a highly-successful tank destroyer built by Germany during World War II based on the chassis of the Panther tank. It entered service in 1944 during the later stages of the war on the Eastern and Western Fronts. The Jagdpanther combined the 8.8 cm Pak 43 cannon, similar to the main gun of the Tiger II, and the armor and suspension of the Panther chassis. During the last stages of the war, limited German production resulted in small production numbers, shortage of spare parts, and shortened crew training periods of younger operators.
This Waltersons Forces Of Valor model represents a Jagdpanther with 654. Schwere Panzerjäger Abteilung (654th Heavy Tank-hunter Battalion) during the Battle of Normandy 1944. One of the very distinctive features with the 1:32 scale Jagdpanther is playability. Compare to traditional plastic model kits, which only allows a visual appreciation, Forces of Valor offers a great interaction between collectors and the model itself, for instance, the gun barrel can manually elevate, spinning road wheels, working suspension system, many open hatches and partial interior details.
Also included a 1/32 scale Myabach HL230 engine along with the Jagdpanther. Even though the engine cannot be placed inside the engine compartment (Since this model was created by FOV-Unimax back in 2003, the original drawing was lost), Waltersons throught it would be interesting to make a full scale HL230 engine as a desk top display. In real life, the HL230 was a powerful V12 gasoline engine that could produce nearly 700 PS, it had been one of the major power plants to propel monstrous German heavy armoured vehicles including the Panther, Jagdpanther, Tiger II (known as the King Tiger) and the JagdTiger etc...
This FOV Jagdpanther model is a great addition to your historic tank collection.
