The Boeing EA-18G Growler is an American carrier-based electronic warfare aircraft, a specialized version of the two-seat F/A-18F Super Hornet. The EA-18G replaced the Northrop Grumman EA-6B Prowlers in service with the United States Navy. The Growler's electronic warfare capability is primarily provided by Northrop Grumman. The EA-18G began production in 2007 and entered operational service with the US Navy in late 2009. Australia has also purchased twelve EA-18Gs, which entered service with the Royal Australian Air Force in 2017. There were 100 EA-18G’s built as of 2014.
This highly detailed Hobby Master model represents a Boeing EA-18G Growler NF500 bureau number 166921, assigned to Electronic Attack Squadron 141 (VAQ-141) “Shadowhawks” during the squadron’s 2013 deployment as part of Carrier Strike Group 5 (CGV 5) aboard USS George Washington (CVN-73)
Electronic Attack Squadron 141 (VAQ-141), known as the "Shadowhawks," was established on April 1, 1988, at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, Washington. Initially equipped with the EA-6B Prowler, the squadron played a vital role in Operation Desert Storm in 1991, disabling Iraqi radar and communication networks. In 2011, VAQ-141 transitioned to the advanced EA-18G Growler, enhancing its electronic warfare capabilities. The squadron has supported global operations, including deployments to the Western Pacific and the Arabian Gulf, and was the first expeditionary Growler squadron to deploy to Japan, integrating with Carrier Air Wing Five (CVW-5) aboard the USS Ronald Reagan (CVN-76). Throughout its history, VAQ-141 has maintained a reputation for excellence and adaptability in electronic warfare.
As with most Hobby Master models this EA-18G features engraved panel lines, antennas, surface details an opening canopy, a well-appointed cockpit (with instrumentation details), full weapons complement, optional-position landing gear, authentic squadron markings, and a display stand.
