Electromagnetic Attack Squadron 132 (VAQ-132), the "Scorpions", is a United States Navy aircraft squadron based at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, flying the EA-18G Growler. The squadron's radio callsign is "Scorp".
In early April 2021, VAQ-132's Scorpions commenced their deployment at Misawa Airbase in Japan, succeeding VAQ-135 Black Ravens in the Growler watch for INDOPACOM. Their journey began with an impressive five-day trans-Pacific trip from Whidbey Island, Washington. Initially, their focus was on standing alerts for USS RONALD REAGAN during its sea trials and aircrew onload. The squadron engaged in training with the 14th Fighter Squadron, conducting simulated strike missions while providing SEAD support. Additionally, they practiced maritime strikes with electronic attacks alongside the Australian frigate HMAS Ballarat and the Japanese destroyers JS Atago and JS Myoko. In Guam, they participated in exercises PACIFIC GRIFFIN (XPG-21) and PACIFIC IRON, involving integration with various U.S. Navy and Marine assets and allied forces from Singapore. The deployment saw split-site operations, with some personnel and aircraft deployed to Andersen AFB, Guam, while others remained in Misawa. The focus shifted to Agile Combat Employment (ACE) during PACIFIC IRON, emphasizing hub-and-spoke operations across the Marianas with F-22s and F-15E Strike Eagles. Concluding their deployment in September 2021, the Scorpions conducted unit-level training and transferred five combat-ready aircraft to VAQ-138, tallying over 1,279 flight hours and 632 sorties, contributing significantly to reassurance efforts among INDOPACOM allies and regional security.
This EA-18G Growler is a great addition to your diecast aircraft collection.
