In 1967 the U.S. became aware of the Soviet MiG-25 Foxbat. This made it necessary to develop a new aircraft to counter the MiG-25. The USAF rejected the USN F-14 Tomcat and issued its own requirements. The solution came in the form of the McDonnell-Douglas (now Boeing) F-15 Eagle. The F-15A made its inaugural flight in July 1972 and in January 1976 the first Eagle entered service. The "E" entered service in 1989. The F-15 was the first dedicated USAF air superiority fighter since the F-86 Sabre.
In 2017, Seymour Johnson Air Force Base's 4th Fighter Wing marked its 75th anniversary by adorning a jet in commemoration. The wing's heritage can be traced back to the original Eagle squadrons of World War II, where American aviators volunteered to fly for the Royal Air Force in Britain prior to the US entry into the war. These squadrons were integrated into the US Army Air Corps in 1942, and today, the 3 original Eagle squadrons—the 334th, 335th, and 336th Fighter Squadrons—are still active. Alongside the 333rd Fighter Squadron, they operate the F-15E Strike Eagle.
This JC Wings model is a replica of F-15E Bureau Number (Buno) 87-0189 from the 4th Fighter Wing based in Seymour Johnson AFB painted in a special 75th Anniversary livery.
JC Wings 1:72 scale models are notable for their extensive pad-printed markings, featuring intricate paint schemes and numerous warning placards covering the entire airframe. They exhibit high levels of detail, including thin cambered wings, simulated stainless-steel heat shielding around the engine exhausts, and movable, finely crafted metal elevators and rudders. The undercarriage is equipped with metal landing gear and an array of accurately pad-printed ordnance. Demonstrating meticulous attention to detail, the models feature functional actuators that extend and retract with the canopy and speed brake, and the compressor fans even rotate when air is blown into the engine intakes.
This F-15E is a great addition to your diecast aircraft collection.
