The McDonnell Douglas Boeing F/A-18E Super Hornet is a twin-engine multi-role carrier-based aircraft. The “E” variant is single-seater while the “F” variant is a tandem-seat configuration. The “E” is a much larger, more advanced, and more capable variant of the F/A-18C. The Super variant can carry a larger array of weapons as well as more of them and can return to the carrier while still carrying unspent munitions, a big savings in dollars. The first F/A-18E flight was in 1995 and began delivery to the USN in 1999.
“Operation Inherent Resolve” began in Syria and Iraq on August 8, 2014, with the objective of military intervention to eliminate the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIL) (Daesh). VFA-103 “Jolly Rogers” was deployed onboard the USS Harry S. Truman CVW-7 from November 2015 until July 2016 in support of “OIR”. During their time there VFA-103 launched 490 Precision Guided Missiles (PGM) making them the most lethal squadron in CVW-7. As of August 2017, the Coalition of 12 countries completed 24,566 strikes in support of “OIR”.
This Hobby Master model is replica of a Boeing F/A-18F Bureau Number 166620 from VFA-103 based on USS Truman 2016 supporting “Operation Inherent Resolve”. As with most Hobby Master models this F/A-18F features engraved panel lines, antennas, surface details an opening canopy, a well-appointed cockpit (with instrumentation details), full weapons complement, optional-position landing gear, authentic squadron markings, and a display stand.
