The Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II is a single-seat, twin turbofan engine, straight wing jet aircraft developed by Fairchild-Republic for the United States Air Force (USAF). Commonly referred to by the nicknames "Warthog" or "Hog", its official name comes from the Republic P-47 Thunderbolt, a World War II fighter-bomber effective at attacking ground targets. The A-10 was designed for close air support (CAS) of friendly ground troops, attacking armored vehicles and tanks, and providing quick-action support against enemy ground forces. The Thunderbolt first flew on May 10th 1972 and entered service with the United States Air Force in October 0f 1977 and continues in service. A total of 716 were produced during a production run from 1972-1984.
This JC Wings 1/144 scale model represents an A-10A with the 107th the Fighter Squadron “ the Red Devils” painted in the 100th Anniversary livery from 2018. The 107th Fighter Squadron is a component of the 127th Operations Group of the 127th Wing and is a part of the Michigan Air National Guard. The unit is based at Selfridge Air National Guard Base Michigan.
