The Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II is a family of single-seat, single-engine, all-weather stealth multirole fighters. The fifth-generation combat aircraft is designed to perform ground-attack and air-superiority missions. It has three main models: the F-35A conventional takeoff and landing (CTOL) variant, the F-35B short take-off and vertical-landing (STOVL) variant, and the F-35C carrier-based catapult-assisted take-off but arrested recovery (CATOBAR) variant
The F-35B is the short takeoff and vertical landing (STOVL) variant of the aircraft. Similar in size to the A variant, the B sacrifices about a third of the A variant's fuel volume to accommodate the vertical flight system. The U.S. Marine Corps plans to purchase 340 F-35B and 80 F-35C models to replace current inventories of both the F/A-18 Hornet (A, B, C and D-models), and the AV-8B Harrier II, in the fighter and attack roles
On 27 September 2018 an F-35B from the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit flying from the USS Essex carried out an air strike using a precision-guided bomb against a Taliban position in Afghanistan, marking the first US combat use of the F-35.
Britain's Royal Air Force and Royal Navy plan to introduce the F-35B as a replacement for the Harrier GR9, which was retired in 2010, and Tornado GR4, which will retire in 2019. The F-35 is intended to be the United Kingdom's primary strike attack aircraft for the next three decades.
This F-35B model by Air Force One represents Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron (VMFAT) 501 based at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Beaufort, South Carolina. It is highly detailed with squadron markings, panel lines, detailed cockpit with pilot figure. The model can be displayed with multiple optional configurations, flight mode or STOVL mode, open or closed weapons bays and extended landing gear. The model also comes with a metal display stand.
This F-35B is a worthy addition to your diecast aircraft collection.
