The North American B-25 Mitchell is an American twin-engine, medium bomber manufactured by North American Aviation (NAA). The design was named in honor of Major General William "Billy" Mitchell, a pioneer of U.S. military aviation. Used by many Allied air forces, the B-25 served in every theater of World War II and after the war ended many remained in service, operating across four decades. Approximately 10,000 aircraft of various variants were produced. The Mitchell’s first flight was August 19, 1940 and introduced into service in 1941. The last Mitchell was retired in 1979.
This model represents the B-25B Mitchell #40-2303 “Whirling Dervish” of the 34th Squadron, 17th Group and was Crew #9 of the Doolittle Raid on Tokyo in 1942. Their target over Tokyo was the Tokyo Gas and Electric Company on the shore of Tokyo Bay. The crew bailed out over China and made their way back to the United States.
This replica is a worthy addition to your diecast aircraft collection.
