Set in 2008 A.D., one year before the original Macross series, Macross Zero portrays the concluding battles of the U.N. Wars between the U.N. Spacy and Anti-UN forces. Taking place in the South Pacific, where a massive alien spaceship crashed nine years earlier, the series follows U.N. Spacy F-14 KAI pilot Shin Kudo. During a confrontation, he encounters a unique enemy aircraft capable of transforming into a robot. After crash landing on Mayan Island, Shin discovers a profound connection between the peaceful native inhabitants, the alien spaceship, and the unfolding war. Returning to his carrier fleet, Shin joins the Skull Squadron, operating cutting-edge transforming fighters called the VF-0 Phoenix. The conflict intensifies as both sides vie for control of alien artifacts, with the serene Mayan people caught in the crossfire.
The VF-0C is a prototype variable fighter from the Macross universe, appearing in "Macross Zero" as a precursor to the VF-1 Valkyrie. Affiliated with the U.N. Spacy, the VF-0C can transform between Fighter (jet), GERWALK (hybrid mode), and Battroid (robot) modes. It features head-mounted laser cannons, gun pods, and missile launchers, with additional external armament capabilities. Unlike the VF-1, it uses conventional jet engines, highlighting its prototype status. The VF-0C's advanced sensor suites and avionics enhance its combat effectiveness. In the context of VMFAT-203, a fictional Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron, the VF-0C would be used for training pilots, emphasizing its role in flight training, combat simulations, and technical instruction. The VF-0C's unique aspects include its experimental technologies and historical importance in bridging conventional jet fighters and advanced mecha in later Macross series. Its distinct color scheme and design elements reflect its prototype status and unit affiliation, underscoring its significance in the development of variable fighter technology.
This Hasegawa 1/72 Scale model kit is a great recreation of the Macross Zero VF-0C Phoenix from VMFAT-203.
