The F-14 Tomcat is a supersonic, long-range, high endurance interceptor fighter aircraft operated by the US Navy as their primary air superiority fighter and to defend is carrier battle group against anti-ship missiles. The F-14 has a two-seat cockpit with a bubble canopy that affords all-around visibility. It features variable geometry wings that wing automatically between 20 and 68 degrees during flight. For high-speed intercept, they are swept back and they swing forward for lower speed flight.
US Navy Strike Fighter Squadron 103 (VFA-103) adopted the Jolly Rogers nickname in 1995 for the sinister white skull-corssbones on all-black tails painted on their F-14's. They provided support in the Yugoslav Wars and participated in the war in Afganistan. Their last deployment with this aircraft was aboard the USS John F Kennedy in the Persian Gulf, with Final Tomcat Cruise added to their famous tails. In December 2004, they returned home from their final cruise with the F-14 Tomcat and began transition to the F/A-18F Super Hornet.
