The Pacific War, which lasted from 1941 to 1945, saw the Empire of Japan engaged in a fierce struggle against the United States, the British Empire, and their allies. Unlike the Western European Theater, most battles in the Pacific were fought on small, remote islands, where combat was marked by extreme brutality, widespread illness, and harsh conditions. The Imperial Japanese Army (IJA), often fighting with minimal naval or aerial support, quickly earned a reputation for its tenacity and unyielding spirit.
At the outset of the Pacific War in 1941, the IJA comprised 51 divisions, with 27 stationed in China. To safeguard against a potential Soviet attack, an additional 13 divisions were positioned along the Manchurian-Soviet border. Starting in 1942, Japanese troops were deployed to various strategic locations: the 23rd Army to Hong Kong, the 14th Army to the Philippines, the 15th Army to both Thailand and Burma, the 16th Army to the Dutch East Indies, and the 25th Army to Malaya. Over the course of the conflict, approximately 5.473 million men served in the Imperial Japanese Army.
This Expeditionary Force boxed set of 9 Japanese figures are dressed in tropical battle dress with shortened sleeves and canvas tabi shoes.
